It’s The International Day Of The Girl Child Today And Here’s How Nigerians Are Celebrating

The International Day Of The Girl Child is celebrated every year on the 11th of October. It is one of the days set aside to promote empowerment of the female child and fulfilment of their human rights while also highlighting the challenges that girls worldwide face.

The United Nations has themed this year’s International Day Of the Girl Child to be “With Her: A Skilled Girl Force”, inspiring girls to innovate and take charge of their future. This is very key in Nigeria today as a lot of girls, in rural areas especially are married off early and not given the opportunity to get a basic formal education The woman’s place is not in the kitchen or the other room and the sooner we start to deflect from these morbid opinions, the better for us in this part of the world.
